What is the difference between leadership and management? What is the most effective leadership style? In this talk, Dr Locke will answer these questions by explaining the importance of flexibility for leadership effectiveness; that is, the most effective leadership style depends on the situation. Dr Locke will introduce a framework of six styles and the situations in which they are most effective.
Dr. Connson Chou Locke is Senior Lecturer in Practice at the London School of Economics (LSE) where she teaches Leadership and Organisational Behaviour. She also teaches on, and serves as Programme Director for, two executive education programmes at the LSE: the Executive Global Masters in Management and the LSE’s one-week executive education courses aimed at senior professionals. Dr Locke has over 25 years’ experience as an educator, coach, and consultant working in Europe, Asia Pacific, North America, and Australia. Prior to entering academia, she served as Regional Training and Development Manager for the Boston Consulting Group where she was responsible for the learning and development of consulting staff in 10 offices across Asia Pacific. She holds a Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Organisational Behaviour from the University of California, Berkeley and a B.A. in Sociology from Harvard University where she graduated with honours.
